Each Monday during August, select five items to declutter and place them into one of two boxes - op shop or family/give to friends. If you want you can have a pile for ebay or gumtree too, up to you. I'm not as I don't want it hanging round nor do I want even more time on the computer :) And of course if it needs to go into rubbish, bin it there and then.
Then, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, select one item a day and add it to your boxes. It could be a pile of magazines as one 'item', don't just move one mag at a time! Same as a draw or a cupboard may be one thing if you have lots you want to get through. Continue this rotation until the last day of August.
Consider asking yourself these questions if you get stuck and feel too attached:
Do I love this?
Do I really need this? When was the last time you used it?
and this one I love
If the house was on fire would you grab this?
The next day - the weekend- you can take your boxes to the op shop bin or where they have to go, making sure you come home with empty bags/boxes. I'm going to take mine more frequently as I hate the clutter hanging round once I'm finished with it! Too impatient.
So I will start off with my list and a picture to shame me into gear!!
1. Kitchen pantry....there are magazines, pamphlets, drugs, food, photos, colouring pencils & books, receipts and god knows what else that needs to go in here. It should only have food and stock pilling goods in it.
2. My shoes.....disgraceful to say the least....and there is more on the left side.
3. Kitchen draw...everyone has one, don't they? You know the draw for all the crap or junk. It has to go.
4. Linen cupboard....not much linen in here....
5. Crockery cupboard...time to get rid of the plastics, and all those white plates I never use.....really need to re-line these cupboards while I'm at it but we were replacing this bank of cupboards....9 years ago!!!!
Thats a start anyway, may be here next month too!!! Will keep updating each Monday to keep on track. Anyone joining me? If you are take some photos or link it to your blog if you are blogging about it. I'm actually now raring to....ready, set, go!
I have signed up too but haven't taken any photos as yet but will probably put it on my blog tomorrow so that I will be accountable too. I'm not as brave as you though and don't think I will be taking before photos of my place. I don't want to give everyone nervous dyspepsia.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with your decluttering.
